The UK government is to put armed counter-terrorism officers on cross-Channel ferries for the first time.
The Times and Guardian newspapers reported that the move will be made in the summer.
Government sources stressed there was no specific threat to passenger vessels but they are seen as vulnerable to Islamist terror strikes.
