Spanish shipowner Antonio Armas Fernandez has died.

Armas, who was chairman of Spain’s largest ropax operator, Naviera Armas Trasmediterranea, passed away suddenly on Tuesday at his home in Gran Canaria.

He was the son of Antonio Armas Curbelo, the founder of Naviera Armas.

Armas took over as chairman in 1968 and helped build the company into one of the largest passenger and cargo operators in Spain.
