Greek shipping minister Yiannis Plakiotakis has asked the country’s Public Ports Authority (PPA) to cease seeking bids to recover the wreck of the 22,000-gt cruiseship Sea Diamond (built 1986).
The move casts doubt, and possibly even cancels, the €350m ($390m) venture announced late last year by the PPA — a semi-autonomous entity that is ultimately under the shipping ministry’s purview.
