The high resolution black and white image was captured by the QuickBird satellite as it swept 450 kilometres above Italy yesterday.
The capsized 114,000-gt Costa Concordia (built 2006) can be seen off the island of Giglio through gaps in the cloud cover along with booms to protect against potential bunker pollution.
