Vega Reederei has opted to enter three of its smaller boxships into lay-up rather than accept dire charter rates.
The German shipowner has placed the 957-teu sisterships Vega Hercules (built 2006), Vega Omikron (built 2005) and Vega Scorpio (2010) into lay-up in Scapa Flow, in Scotland's Orkney Islands.
The vessels arrived in the Scottish islands in the past couple of days, said Vega managing partner Torsten Brugge.
