The US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) says it's in the first phase of an investigation over fees charged by containership operators for delays in picking up containers.
The announcement of the probe, to be led by commissioner Rebecca Dye, comes 14 months after group of customers to the major boxship lines petitioned the FMC to look into the issue of demurrage, detention, and free time practices of ocean common carriers.
