Panamax boxship rates have risen to more than $40,000 per day — a level last seen in 2007.
That is reflected in longer periods, higher rates and further forward deliveries.
It is restricting future supply and has the potential to make the current earning recovery “self-fulfilling”, according to Maritime Strategies International.
Charter rates for 4,250-teu boxships have risen to more than $40,000 per day for two-year periods, with even higher rates coming close to being agreed for shorter fixtures.
