Sea Consortium has placed an order for up to five 3,100-teu containerships at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard in China.
The contract, which involves three vessels plus options for two more, is estimated by shipbuilding sources to be worth $175m. It is part of the Singapore shipowner and feeder containership operator’s fleet expansion programme.
Although Sea Consortium was not available for comment, a Zhoushan Changhong executive confirmed the order to TradeWinds.
