Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) has confirmed orders for 13 neo-panamax containership newbuildings at two Chinese state-owned shipyards.
The Geneva-based liner giant thus joins the growing number of container companies cutting out tonnage providers by directly ordering their own large containerships.
Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) will build seven of the 16,000-teu vessels, while Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) will construct the remaining six.
