Hapag-Lloyd has inked an order worth up to $1bn for six ultra-large containerships at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME).
The 23,000-teu vessels will be equipped with LNG dual-fuel engines. They are scheduled for delivery between April and December 2023.
The ships are believed to be costing in the region of $165m per vessel, although a pioneering engine design may reduce that by up to $3m per ship.
