Charter rates for reefer vessels have hit a five-year high due to a coronavirus-induced shortage of containers.
The ISB Seafield Reefer Index, which measures charter rates for vessels of between 260,000 cbf and 470,000 cbf, hit 1,531 points late last week — its highest since 2015.
It has been pushed up by a shortage of reefer containers and increased demand from trades in Latin American fruit and Atlantic seafood.
