The coronavirus outbreak has driven up the number of disputes being handled by German freight, demurrage and defence (FD&D) mutual Schutzverein Deutscher Rheder (SDR).
Force majeure and crew-transfer issues lifted the dispute numbers on the fleet insured by SDR to 239 in the year ending October 2020, compared with 205 in the previous year.
The number of charter parties referred for evaluation also increased to 181, up from 150 the year before.
