China United Lines (CU Lines) has signed up for a pair of 2,700-teu container ship newbuildings at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. This is its second newbuilding contract at the state-owned yard.
The intra-Asian liner operator’s first deal with Huangpu Wenchong, sealed last year, involved four 1,900-teu vessels for delivery in 2023. They were reported to cost $26m each.
According to a local news agency, the 2,700-teu newbuildings will be compliant with the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index Phase III standards.
