The proposed US port fees targeting Chinese-built ships could cost the container feeder sector $5bn to $6bn per year.
Shipbroker Braemar says the proposals make no allowance for the size of ships, so would hit smaller vessels with more frequent port calls.
That would greatly increase costs, especially for feeder and regional boxships up to 3,999 teu.
