Wildlife smugglers are adjusting to a new post-Covid-19 reality, with seizures of illegally shipped elephant ivory rising again.

Tight border restrictions during the pandemic led to a dramatic drop in the illicit trade. Still, traffickers have altered their routes, and Vietnamese ports are emerging as vital hubs, according to the US Center for Advanced Defense Studies (C4ADS).

Ivory is typically trafficked from sub-Saharan Africa to the Far East and South East Asia.
