South Korean container line and VLCC owner HMM has been classed as a “controlled carrier” by the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC).
The group has been added to the list due to its majority control by the South Korean government.
The shipowner will now be subject to certain regulatory oversights by the FMC, ensuring it does not unfairly use “government-supported positions” against competitors.
