Container freight rates have continued their sharp decline and are tipped to fall further in the coming weeks.
Ocean carriers had announced surcharges ranging from $1,000 to $4,500 per feu in anticipation of disruptions due to the US port strike.
But as most of these would only have gone into effect in mid-October or later, they had not impacted spot rates yet, Levine said.
