Greek owner Chartworld Shipping is looking to order panamax container ship newbuildings to meet high demand by liner companies.
Shipbuilding players said it is in contact with at least two shipyards in China for a series of 4,300-teu vessels.
One source said the Greek company has signed a letter of intent for up to four newbuildings with Hengli Shipyard.
