Tug and barge operators operating around Singapore have been warned about an uptick in vessel boardings over the last few months.

Between early February and late April four such incidents in close proximity to each other were reported in the western sector of the Singapore Strait, according to the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP)

“All four incidents occurred to tug boats towing barges or dredgers while underway in the westbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS),” said ReCAAP.
