Five beaches have been closed after fuel from the boxship CSL Virginia reached the French coast.
About 200 cbm of oil was spilled after the 17,900-gt Cotunav ro-pax Ulysse (built 1997) slammed into the anchored 5,018-teu CSL Virginia (built 2005) last week off Corsica, causing a fuel slick that stretched for miles.
The local Var prefecture said clean-up operations were being planned on Wednesday after oil cakes were seen at Ramatuelle, Saint-Tropez and Sainte-Maxime.
