The owner of a cargoship that beached in Ireland after 16 months adrift at sea has reportedly come forward.
Irish government officials said they had been contacted by a person claiming to own the 1,600-dwt Alta (built 1976).
The so-called “ghost ship” was forced aground on rocks in County Cork during a storm on Sunday.
The owner listed in July 2018 by the Equasis database was Alta Shipping of Miami.
