Manila anchorage has seen a spike in incidents of piracy in 2020 partly due to the extra ships in the region because of coronavirus measures.
Seven incidents occurred the area between January and August, according to the Singapore-based Information Fusion Centre (IFC).
This compares with two incidents in last year, and three in 2018, prompting the IFC to describe Manila anchorage as an “area of concern”.
