Smit have finally received approval from Italian authorities to begin removing bunkers from the wreck of the Costa Concordia.
On Tuesday the Dutch salvage company was able to move a barge loaded with equipment alongside the capsized cruise ship.
Divers have begun inspecting parts of the ship’s underwater area and making preparations to remove the bunkers – a task which is expected to take one or two days.
