Safe Bulkers has ordered an eco kamsarmax bulker from a Japanese shipbuilder, the shipowner said on Tuesday without disclosing any further information.

The Polys Hajioannou-led owner of 44 bulkers said it has agreed to buy a Japanese, 81,800-dwt kamsarmax “at an attractive price” that it plans to take delivery of in the second quarter of 2025.

The ship is designed to meet the Phase 3 requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index, which is focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vessels.
