Capesize bulk carriers in the spot market can be hired on major routes for less than $2,000 per day.
The new assessment comes as the Baltic Capesize Index fell into negative territory for the second consecutive trading day on Thursday, falling by 31 to reach -48 points.
The Baltic Exchange assessed capesize earnings on its five major benchmark routes at $1,992 per day, down by $90 compared to Wednesday's level.
