Giant investor Oaktree Capital Management has regained control of handysize bulkers chartered to a group of companies later hit by US sanctions on Iran.
Defendants Courage Shipping, Amethyst Ventures and Oryx Shipping, controlled by Syrian businessman Abdul Jalil Mallah, were attempting to resist Oaktree’s termination of 25-month charters for the 31,800-dwt Courage (built 2009) and 34,400-dwt Amethyst (built 2014) when the US imposed sanctions in 2021.
