A plan hatched last week by Ukraine to use vessels remaining trapped at its Black Sea ports to ship grain looks like it would have access to a limited amount of tonnage.
According to AIS data, there are only a handful of suitable bulk carriers at Chernomorsk, Yuzhny and Odesa, which are the three ports cited in the plan.
The ships that remain trapped in Ukraine are mostly at the ports of Mykolaiv and Kherson, which are located too close to the front line of the war with Russia to be considered.
