Leading dry bulk operators are calling on Japanese tonnage suppliers to restructure long-term charter deals as losses mount in the trading markets, according to local sources.
Last week, Norway’s specialist open-hatch bulk carrier operator Gearbulk revealed it had approached its tonnage suppliers to open negotiations on rates, but it appears the company is not alone.
Chowgule Steamship, Jaldhi Overseas, DryLog and CMT are mentioned, but not confirmed, by Japanese sources as sounding out owners on a possible restructuring of deals.
