UK company SodaFlexx has revealed it is retrofitting vessels with scrubbers that use baking soda to remove sulphur oxide emissions.

After three years of trials, the dry exhaust gas cleaning system was installed on the 96,772-dwt self-discharging bulker Yeoman Bridge (built 1991), controlled by Dutch conglomerate Bontrup.

The application for removing SOx is currently in the process of obtaining a US patent.
