Approval in principle has been given for China’s first ammonia-powered Newcastlemax bulk carrier to be built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC).
UK-based classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded the approval to DSIC, the largest shipbuilding company in China, for its design of a 210,000 dwt bulk carrier to be powered by the promising zero-carbon-emission fuel.
LR’s role was to review the suitability and risks of the design for the alternative fuel.
