Athens-based Diana Wilhelmsen Management (DWM) has been fined $2m for concealing oily water discharges from a bulker off the US.
The Department of Justice said the joint venture between Wilhelmsen and Diana Shipping was sentenced in the District Court of Norfolk, Virginia, after pleading guilty to violating pollution law both in that state and in Louisiana.
The manager admitted that crew members on the 73,000-dwt Protefs (built 2004) knowingly failed to record overboard discharges of oily bilge water between mid-April and 10 June 2020.
