Chellaram Shipping of Hong Kong has signed up for one 82,000-dwt bulker at China’s Chengxi Shipyard for delivery at the end of 2022.
The kamsarmax deal includes an option for an additional ship.
A Chellaram executive did not confirm the order but said his company is always looking at opportunities to rejuvenate its fleet.
A Chengxi official confirmed the order, saying the ship will be built to comply with Phase 2 of the International Maritime Organization's Energy Efficiency Design Index standards and Tier III NOx rules.
