Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp has reportedly approached several major Asian shipyards about building a series of 10,000-teu units and feeder containerships that may cost more than $1.35bn.
The talks come as part of plans revealed last month to order 20 ships, although sources now say the target may rise to 24.
Shipbuilding sources say Yang Ming is looking to order 10 neo-panamax containerships and up to 14 ships of 2,400 teu.
