In a statement AGL Resources offshoot Pivotal LNG and WesPac Midstream said they signed a letter of intent with the Jones Act operator that has set the stage for the construction of an LNG plant in Jacksonville, Florida.

The companies acknowledged there is “still work to be done” and admitted the trio has not yet signed definitive documentation but were quick to point out that the partners involved in the project are already active players in the North American LNG space.

An industry observer contacted by TradeWinds about the announcement noted they were not surprised to learn that Jacksonville was chosen as the location of the plant since TOTE’s dual-fuel containerships are going to operate on a loop that links Florida to Puerto Rico.

The contact also noted that Jones Act compatriot Crowley Maritime, which is based in Jacksonville, recently inked an order for a pair of LNG-powered ro-ro containerships that will be deployed on a similar run upon delivery from VT Halter Marine in 2017.
