Washington-based TOTE says construction of the first 3,100-teu vessel is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2014 with delivery due in the fourth quarter of 2015 while the second ship will hit the water in the first quarter of 2016 in a pact that includes three options.
The Sea Star Line affiliate, which is a subsidiary of privately owned conglomerate Saltchuck Resources, has committed $350m to a project that is expected to sustain 600 jobs in and around the shipyard’s hometown of San Diego, California.
