Matson's $511m order for two conros at San Diego's General Dynamics Nassco will give the shipowner a "strong competitive advantage" in the Jones Act liner market, a Stifel analyst said Friday.
Analyst Benjamin Nolan, who covers shipping stocks for the financial firm, said the 3,500-teu, 400-car ships will allow the New York-listed company to operate fewer ships that are more efficient than the older vessels now operating in the domestic trade between the US mainland and Hawaii.
