Shanghai Salvage Company (SSC) has managed to board the broken Lomar Shipping boxship Kea Trader for the first time in the South Pacific.
The 2,194-teu vessel (built 2017) grounded on a rock reef off New Caledonia last July.
Personnel and sea-going resources are now beginning to assemble on site for the removal, as salvor Ardent hands over the operation.
SSC’s structural experts have begun to assess the status of the vessel, which lies in two halves and has deteriorated from the direct impact of two heavy cyclones within a month.
