The head of South Korea's Financial Services Commission showed an openness to a potential merger of Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Hanjin Shipping, after they work out their present financial torubles.
FSC chairman Yim Jong-yong said the FSC will consider various possible plans for the two shipping giants "including the merger of the companies", according to local daily Korea Times.
A debate over combining the two troubled companies has continued for months, but other officials have been less keen to see the two diversified shipping companies come together.
