Dutch police have opened an investigation after a reported stabbing on a multipurpose ship off Scotland.

A Russian seafarer was reportedly knifed in the chest and arm on the 5,900-dwt Leah (built 1996) 82 miles off Lewis, according to the Press and Journal.

The crewman, 32, was airlifted to hospital by helicopter on Saturday.

A spokesman for the coastguard in Stornoway told the newspaper the man was injured in an altercation with another crew member.
