In a statement the National Retail Federation(NRF) encouraged the two sides to reach a deal “well in advance” of the expiration ofthe existing deal on 30 June.
The organisation claims the InternationalLongshore and Warehouse Union and Pacific Maritime Association plan to startnegotiations in mid-May.
The group pointed out that the pending contractcovers nearly 14,000 union jobs that are linked to 29 different containerisedports in California, Oregon and Washington.
