The ferry, which will be able to carry a maximum of 600passengers and 160 cars, will be owned by SamsoMunicipality, which is responsible forthe route crossing the Kattegat. In 1997,Samso was selected to become Denmark’sfirst renewable energy island.
Remontowa Yard in Gdansk, Poland has beenchosen to build the vessel, which will be classed by DNV and was designed by DanishOSK-ShipTech.
“The new LNG-fuelledferry owned and operated by the municipality will fit into the island’s environmentalprofile,” says Samso mayor Jorn Nissen whos adds: “So far, we’ve wiped out ourcarbon footprint by using a combination of wind and solar power and biofuel.”
