Japanese shipowner MOL is teaming up with IBM to test blockchain operations.
The company said a trial of cross-border trading will take place this month.
It wants to find out if operations can be streamlined and upgraded using encryption technology.
Real transaction data will be used by a blockchain-based application, through which a wide variety of documents, including trade agreements and logistics/insurance documents, are digitised, recorded and shared among participants.
