A Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) executive is playing down market reports that the South Korean shipowner has entered discussions with domestic shipyards over containership newbuildings.
Multiple sources said the country’s flagship liner company is looking to order 12 to 14 vessels of up to 22,000 teu to increase its competitiveness.
A HMM executive says the talk is just market speculation and that no newbuildings discussions are taking place.
