The rebel Houthi militia in Yemen has begun laying new mines around the port of Hodeidah.
Local reports said the aim is to cause damage to ships passing through the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
Yemeni media said the group is using Iranian-made bombs.
Joseph Dunford, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, has warned of the threat posed to the waterway by the group.
