Korean owner Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) is banking on a big profitability boost from its new "ultra-freezer" service.
The company said freight rates will be between four and eight times higher for the "high-value" reefer business.
The run started on Thursday from Busan in Korea to Barcelona.
"Currently there are only two other ultra-freezer service providers, Maersk Line and CMA-CGM, and HMM is the only ultra-freezer service provider as Korea’s national flag carrier," it said.
