It may be early days but the actor, who has also won Oscarstatuettes for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, seems almost certain to be in themix come January when the nominations are revealed.

Hanks takes on the role of Captain Richard Phillips in thetrue story of the 2009 hijacking of the US-flagged 1,068-teu Maersk Alabama(built 1998), the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundredyears.

The film is helmed by British director Paul Greengrass who tookcharge of the second and third instalments in the Bourne trilogy of actionmovies.

And if the trailers are anything to go by, Captain Phillipscould be every bit as tense and exciting.

The movie will premier at the New York film festival andopen this year’s BFI London film festival before going on general worldwide releasein October.
