UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is to privatise its Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG) service.
The service was much-heralded when it was introduced in 2006, not least by the MCA.
But in the last five years, its expertise in firefighting has only been called upon half a dozen times.
Also it has been judged that these responses had no significant impact on the outcome of the incidents.
