The major construction work that has shut down a major pier at Costa Rica's port of Moin has led to higher costs for container lines.

French liner giant CMA CGM told customers today that the project has caused a "hectic and unstable port situation" for several weeks at the port, part of a complex that includes neighbouring Limon.

The problems come as the port undergoes major upgrades in its bid to boost its role as a transshipment hub following expansion of the Panama Canal.
