The containership company said net earnings were $178m in the three months to30 June, without giving a comparative figure.
Its six-month profit last yearwas $237m.
Revenuerose by 12% year-on-year to $4.15bn as it experienced a “sharpacceleration in business growth.”
The group’svessels carried 2.7m teuduring the period, up 8% year-on-year.
It said : “Following a first quarterthat was challenging for the entire maritime container shipping industry,second-quarter 2012 saw a clear improvement in the market environment with avery substantial upturn in freight rates.”
