The contest to be TradeWinds’ Maritime Photographer of the Year is so far evenly balanced with no entry getting more than 20% of the votes.



Tim Johannsen’s dramatic photo (F) of the 4,500-dwt chemical carrier Patricia Essberger (built 2000) ploughing through ice as the vessel approaches the Gulf of Finland port of Porvoo has a narrow lead over the image of welding sparks cascading down on a dry dock worker (A) taken by Capt John L David and of Hansaport cranes seen through a hawse pipe of the 311,000-dwt ore carrier Berge Vik (built 1987) (H) from Capt Madhu Vadakkepat.
